Cursing

The Christian Bible does not really say much about curse words.  It does say that our speech should be uplifting.  It says that we should guard our tongues, and that we should not use them to tear others down, but it does not mention words that we should not say.

So the question is, should curse words be used or not?  Well, sometimes strong word allow people to get their points across much more effectively.  Sometimes those same words make people sound unintelligent and after listening to them, they appear to have a very limited vocabulary.

Our culture in America has labeled some words as offensive.  Most of those words do offend me.  As a result, I believe that curse words should be avoided.  I think that there is a more creative way in which things can be said that does not necessitate the use of curse words.  Furthermore, as a Christian I know that people or looking to see how I live to know if I really believe what I say I do.  If I am talking offensively in front of their children, I have ruined my witness to them.  I think that Christians should not curse because it ruins their witness to people who may be watching them to see if their faith is real.  Even if Scripture does not tell us that we should not use curse words, culture helps dictate what words we should and should not use in our common speech.
