My thoughts on education are really quite simple.  Education should teach people how to become great thinkers, lovers, and doers.  Education should equip people by teaching them how to learn.  I believe (and agree with Dorothy Sayers) that the best way to learn is to learn the vocabulary of any subject, then they should learn how the vocabulary is expressed for that subject, and finally, the student should learn how to express the vocabulary in his or her own words as he or she critically evaluates and judges the discipline.
